Plant preferably in a heavy rich moist soil. Make sure its approx 30cm (12"") away from the fence or trellis.
Grow Ivy in any moist, well drained garden soil in a sheltered position, in full sun or partial shade. Ivy will perform especially well on alkaline soils, although plants are also tolerant of a wide range of different soil conditions.
Once the plant starts to grow, it will train itself to grow up walls or trellis forming a dense green shape in time.
Ivy produces small black berries that the birds love, but beware; they are poisonous to humans! If planted indoors, keep away from direct sunlight.
