Plant Buddleja into garden borders in any moist, well-drained garden soil, preferably in full sun otherwise semi-shade. Alternatively grow Butterfly Bush plants in patio containers using soil based compost.

The Buddleja is a strong plant that will even thrive in neglect and even grow happily in poor soil conditions. Prompt removal of spent flower spikes will usually promote until frost.

Prune in early to mid-spring to allow for the new growth to mature and flower in the same year. Avoid pruning in winter, as it may lead to frost damage of new shoots.
