It's fun and easy to grow raspberries!
Ideally you will want to plant your new raspberry canes between March-June and September-November.
Raspberry bushes respond best when placed in a sunny position in well drained soil. Prior to planting, include plenty manure or compost into the planting hole.
Raspberry canes should be planted in rows, allowing a distance of 1-1.5m between plants. Firm in and water well. Prune each cane to 30cm immediately following planting to encourage more shoots to be produced.
Note: Raspebbries bushes can also be grown in large containers of soil.
Water well for the first year until plants are well established. When berries begin to develop, place a net over the plants to protect the fruit from unwanted birds.
Prune raspberry canes to ground level each late winter (February) and apply garden compost to the base of the brunches. This will help to keep moisture all through the summer.
Caring for your plant is important if you wish it to bear lovely fruits for you to enjoy. Once established, your raspberries will require very little care throughout the year.
